Douglas J. Shaw Chief Executive Officer and President
Doug Shaw brings 30 years of experience in executive and management positions to his role as CEO and president of Monotype Imaging, a leading supplier of text imaging solutions to consumer electronic device manufacturers and creative professionals. He has held this position since January 2007 and in July 2007 led the company to a successful IPO.
From November 2004 until December 2006, Shaw was executive vice president and a member of Monotype Imaging's board of directors. He was instrumental in the management initiative leading to the Agfa divestiture in 2004. From 1988 until 2004, Shaw served in various business planning, sales, marketing and product management capacities for Agfa. From 1981 until it was acquired by Agfa in 1988, he was employed by Compugraphic Corp. where he co-founded the Font Technologies division in 1986, establishing the business that eventually became Monotype Imaging. Before joining Compugraphic, he was a corporate services officer for the First National Bank of Boston.
Shaw holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Boston College and a master's in business administration from Babson College. He is active in various organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He is married with four children and a life-long Boston area resident.
John L. Seguin Executive Vice President
John Seguin oversees the expansion of the company's technology solutions in a variety of industries requiring text display, including printers, digital copiers, mobile phones, digital televisions, set-top boxes, digital cameras, portable media players and other consumer electronics devices. Seguin is also responsible for the company's product marketing functions.
Seguin brings to Monotype Imaging more than 20 years experience in sales and executive positions at various high-tech companies, including Zoran Corp., Bitstream Inc. and Howtek Inc. Prior to joining Monotype Imaging in 2004, Seguin was vice president of worldwide sales at SandVideo Inc.
Seguin holds a bachelor's degree from Southeastern University at Dartmouth, Mass and a master's degree in business administration from Suffolk University in Boston. Seguin was also a member of the U.S. Air Force and earned an honorable discharge.
Scott Landers Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Scott Landers brings to Monotype Imaging more than 15 years of experience in the software and public accounting industries. Prior to joining Monotype Imaging in July, 2008, Landers served as vice president of global finance at Pitney Bowes Software, a $450 million division of Pitney Bowes Inc. and a leading global provider of location intelligence solutions. Landers was also vice president of finance at MapInfo Corp., which was acquired by Pitney Bowes in April, 2007. At MapInfo, Landers held several positions since joining the company in 1997, including a post as director of finance at MapInfo Canada. Earlier in his career, Landers was a business assurance manager with Coopers & Lybrand.
Landers is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. and a masters' of business administration from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.
Steven R. Martin Vice President, Engineering and Development
Steve Martin is responsible for the development of Monotype Imaging software products, including font rendering subsystems, multilingual technologies, printer drivers and color imaging tool kits. He also oversees the development of typefaces that operate within Monotype Imaging technologies.
Prior to joining Monotype Imaging in 2005, Martin was the director of development at Newmarket International, an enterprise software development firm. He spent 10 years at Scansoft (now Nuance), beginning as a software architect and eventually becoming vice president of new product development, responsible for imaging applications. Prior to Scansoft, Martin was employed at ExperVision, a startup company focused on optical character recognition technologies. He was also a senior software engineer at Lotus.
Martin received his bachelor's in computer science at Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass. He earned his master's in engineering at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he studied graphics rendering and user interface design.
David L. McCarthy Vice President and General Manager, OEM Sales
Dave McCarthy oversees a worldwide team of business account managers responsible for licensing Monotype Imaging font technologies, typefaces, printer drivers and color tool kits to OEM customers.
McCarthy has held various OEM sales positions since 1990, when he joined the Font Technologies division of Compugraphic Corp., the group founded by Robert M. Givens and Douglas J. Shaw which eventually became Monotype Imaging Inc. McCarthy has played a key role in establishing relationships with OEM customers - relationships that date back more than 15 years in some cases.
Prior to OEM typographic sales, McCarthy sold typesetting equipment and was a senior product manager for front-end systems at Compugraphic, where he began his career in 1977 as a representative within the training and installation division.
Jack P. Murphy Vice President and Chief Technologist
Jack Murphy leads initiatives that target future technology opportunities, including assessing new markets and providing technical counsel on acquisition candidates. Murphy's leadership extends to monitoring new software architectures, technologies and industry trends, and he oversees Monotype Imaging's participation in industry standards organizations. Since joining the company in 1993, Murphy has held various positions including development manager of rasterizer products, director of new enterprises, and engineering manager responsible for technologies used in consumer electronics display devices. Prior to his current role, Murphy served as Monotype Imaging's vice president of research and development.
Murphy has been involved in the high-tech industry for more than 30 years and has held positions at Visage, Siemens Nixdorf, Times Mirror Publishing, Apollo Computer, Computervision and Compugraphic. He has also won awards for his role in developing multimedia authoring systems and interactive educational software.
Murphy holds bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and liberal arts. He earned a high technology master's degree in business administration from Northeastern University of Boston.
