LAS VEGAS, Jan 04, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- LVCC South 4 Booth 35553MP - Monotype Imaging Inc. (Nasdaq: TYPE), a leading global provider of text imaging solutions, will demonstrate embedded capabilities at CES that integrate fonts and font technologies with tools for developing highly engaging graphical user interfaces on memory-constrained, consumer electronics devices.

The solution is based on the company's acquisition last month of Planetweb, Inc., a California-based global provider of embedded user interface software and developer tools. By offering technologies that address both font and GUI requirements, Monotype Imaging expects to broaden its value to OEMs aiming to build products that display multilingual text with clarity, consistency and style.

"Seamlessly integrating fonts and font technologies with embedded GUI development tools will allow OEMs to more effectively differentiate their offerings, reduce time to market and expand their products' appeal in markets across the globe," said Ken Soohoo, director of UI technology at Monotype Imaging. In 1996, Soohoo co-founded Planetweb and was its president and chief executive officer. "We envision customers will be better equipped to deliver rich, highly interactive, branded user interfaces and applications to devices that consumers use every day."

Monotype Imaging's CES demonstrations will include the SpectraWorks solution, a hardware- and OS-independent suite of tools and technologies for developing embedded GUIs quickly and inexpensively. SpectraWorks enables the design of highly interactive UIs and applications for devices such as digital cameras, set-top boxes, high-definition DVD players and consumer appliances.

Demonstrations will also spotlight Monotype Imaging's scalable iType® font engine and the company's WorldType® Layout Engine, which enables the composition, positioning and rendering of multilingual text, including complex writing systems such as Arabic, Hebrew and Indic scripts. Devices such as cell phones will be used to highlight the flexibility and portability of the company's font and font technology offerings, which operate in a variety of development environments. In addition, attendees can experience Monotype Imaging's Edge Technology, which enables memory-constrained devices such as mobile phones to display high-quality, stylistic East Asian text.
